The School of European Political Economy (SEP) is part of LUISS – Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali Guido Carli. An independent university established between 1974 and 1978, it has four departments: Political Science, Law, Business and Management, and Economics and Finance. LUISS offers an advanced model of education, aiming not only to impart knowledge, but also to help students engage in flexible and open-minded reasoning.
There are many reasons why LUISS supports research and teaching on governance and European policy. In a period when European issues are pervasive and determine the cornerstones of national economic policies, Italy is one of the few member states that does not have an institution dedicated to this topic--one capable of functioning both as a school and a think tank. LUISS is in an excellent position to fill this gap, thanks to its ability to attract research expertise and establish international connections. Through SEP, it has created a center for academic research and advanced training that can also help guide policy makers.
Studying at the School of European Political Economy means becoming a part of the dynamic and international LUISS community. Students of our master’s courses are actively involved in all academic initiatives, seminars, and conferences at the university. For details regarding these activities, please see the LUISS web site. Here, however, we have outlined a few important aspects.
With regard to teaching, the LUISS model is based on:
- a selective student body;
- an admission test;
- obligatory, full-time attendance;
- a distinguished faculty, with backgrounds in academia, as well as the highest levels of the corporate world;
- intensive study of foreign languages and information technology;
- a well-stocked, targeted library with an online catalogue;
- an extensive network of international exchanges with 100 European and non-European universities;
- assistance from qualified tutors during the entire degree program and internship; and
- seminars and debates on important issues, integrated with courses held during the academic year.
SEP master’s candidates can take advantage of all the services that LUISS reserves for its students.
