The article presents an overview of the current dynamics within the populist government coalition, pointing out the differences that separate Matteo Salvini’s League and Luigi Di Maio’s Five Star Movement. For now it appears that the former, being a product of a traditional party system, seems to be distancing himself from his ally (he is also ahead in the polls) and assuming more of an institutional position.
