August 27, 2015 – Il Sole 24 Ore published an editorial by SEP Senior Fellow Carlo Bastasin, in which he discusses the implications of the effect the Chinese financial crisis has had on Europe. He points out that the European economy is very much concentrated on exports, and therefore dependent on the economic growth of other countries. He argues that the crisis in Asia and the depression in Europe exposes a void in the European political economy, an incapacity to sustain growth when necessary, and the fragility of a model of development based on very low levels of investment.
